(Xinhua/Ju Peng) BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisory body, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, opened its annual session on Monday in Beijing. The second session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee kicked off at the Great Hall of the People, where more than 2,000 national political advisors gathered. Party and state leaders Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng took their seats on the rostrum. At the opening meeting, the agenda for the session was reviewed and approved. Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee to the session. Reviewing the past year's work of the CPPCC, Wang highlighted the new achievements made by the 14th CPPCC National Committee and its Standing Committee, and their contributions in serving the development of the cause of the Communist Party of China and the state. The year 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and stands as a pivotal year for achieving the goals and tasks outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), Wang said. It also marks the 75th anniversary of the CPPCC's establishment, he added. In 2024, the CPPCC will focus on advancing Chinese modernization, actively offer suggestions, foster broad consensus, and pool wisdom and strength for the country to achieve the economic and social development objectives for the entire year, Wang said. According to a report on the handling of political advisors' proposals since the previous session, a total of 5,621 proposals have been submitted since the 2023 session, and of the 4,791 proposals filed, 99.9 percent have been processed with feedback.
